Monday Cables || Still Knitting and More That isn't Knitting

Hello again! I'm still knitting the stockings I mentioned int the last post basically every feasible moment!! (Did I use "feasible" correctly?) I'm about 2/3 of the way done with stocking 2 of 3. I took a short break to crochet a snood which unfortunately doesn't work so well. More on that in just a moment.

This past weekend I went to a World War II Weekend! Wow, what an experience!! Being into 1940s movies, music, fashion, etc. It was so much fun!! There were literally thousands of people both spectators and re-enactors that dress in World War II era military uniforms or civilian clothing! Of course, I dressed up, which is why I wanted to crochet a snood. I tried everything to make it fit right but I think I had just too much hair for it. I ended up buying one at the flea market during the weekend. There was also an airshow of all World War II era aircraft! Here are a few pictures of some of the things at the World War II weekend!

This paratrooper demonstration was really cool to watch! Being someone who has no interest in jumping out of a plane and skydiving or anything that is in anyway similar, I really admire the bravery that it takes to do this. I can not imagine what it must have felt like to parachute down and be ready for battle!! [These pictures were taken on two different days which is why one is more cloudy than the other.]

I'm not sure what the last 2 planes are. If you know, please leave a comment!!

This is during the big band concert and dance. There were So many people dress in vintage styles. I was a little disappointed by how many dresses were very 1950s looking. I can't really say much about that because even my dress was not exact to the 1940s era. It was a lot of fun seeing hundreds of people swing dancing in their vintage style outfits. The man in the red vest in the center of the photo wore an entire Zoot suit! I think the jacket was in his hands when this photo was snapped. It was almost 90 degrees out that day. The people in wool military uniforms must've been stifling!!
I love the woman's uniform in this photo! I think she's in a Women's Air Corps uniform. I'm debating about getting all the pieces for one of those at some point because I have a family member who was "WAC" during World War II. In the flea market I saw a lot of WAVES uniforms It was so neat to think about the history behind each piece of clothing. My husband bought a Garrison cap that had the original owner's name, division, and company number inside. I looked it up and think I found that man's obituary which said that he was an orthopedic technician during the war.

There were so many re-enactors ,encampments, field hospitals, military vehicles, and airplanes all over the place from both sides! This is a Mercedes with SS flags on it. I'm around the back of the car wearing the blue snood that I bought earlier in the day.

I had such a good time and was even mistaken as an event volunteer a couple of times which was funny and really made me feel like I had the 1940s look down pretty good!

I hope you all enjoyed the pictures! Thanks for reading! I am so grateful to the men and women who served in the armed forces and bravely fought to protect our freedom.

Have you even been to an event like this one?
Do you think you would wear a uniform or civilian clothing?
Can you swing dance?

  1. It sounds like it was a fun event you went to. I love the dresses and cars!

    1. It was so much fun! I'm already looking forward to next year and hoping to either purchase an authentic 1940s dress or a pattern to make one for then! Thanks so much for stopping by again Julie!

  2. This looks like such an enjoyable event! How cool to have a paratrooper demonstration. I have never been to one like it, but if ever I get the chance that would be great. :) Though I would most likely attend in civilian costume, I like the uniform of the lady you showed.
I nominated you for an award on my blog! If you decide to do it, here is the link: .

    1. Thank you SO much for the nomination!! I will definitely be responding to your questions! I really enjoyed the WWII event and I love the way the uniforms look but they're mostly wool and that would just be too hot in 90 degree weather!

    2. You are so welcome! :) Oh my, I'm sure that it would. :-S

  3. Oooh wow, this looks like such a neat/fun event! Enjoyed the photos!

    1. Thank you!! It was a really great! It was so nice to see some of the re-enactors posing with pictures with WWII veterans and the airshow was amazing!
